Travel the Wine Route
Fertile
valleys surrounded by mountains with a mediterranean climate are
the natural home of great wines. The Cape south west corner has
capitalised on natures' bounty. The region is famous for fine
wines, Ports, Sherries and Brandies.
Most of the vinyards and estates have opened their cellars to
visitors and provide facilities for tasting, meals and other refreshments.
There are several tour operators servicing
the wine routes and visitors would be advised to take advantage
of their special knowledge.
Maps
are available for those who feel the need to be free to wander.
In Historic Stellenbosch there are over 40
wine farms to visit. The cellars of the Wine Route are situated
along the four main roads leading to Stellenbosch. Each cellar
entrance is clearly signposted - watch for the official Wine Route
logo. Most of the cellars offer cellar tours as well as lunches
in their shaded gardens or restaurants together with a bottle
of wine of your choice.
Heading out towards Franschoek visitors pass
the famous Boschendal estate. A restaurant serves tea and traditional
Cape pastries while the main homestead has been opened as a museum.
Wine may be purchased at all of the cellars.
Should you require it, delivery both nationally and internationally
can be arranged.
