Visit the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront
The
Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is Cape Town's biggest tourist
attraction, and is an absolute must see.
The enchantment of the V&A lies in the fact that it is set
amidst a working vibrant commercial harbour.
The developed amusement and entertainment buildings occupy a very
large area with pubs, theatres, markets, restaurants, specialty
shops and travel service companies.
Some of the attractions at The V&A
Waterfront:
The S A Maritime Museum:
houses the largest ship model collection in South Africa as well
as displays on shipwrecks, Union Castle liners, General Botha
Training, Whaling, History of Table Bay and more.
Two Oceans Aquarium Some 3000 living animals, including fish,
invertebrates, mammals, reptiles and birds can be seen in this
spectacular underwater nature reserve.
The SAS Somerset:
A retired naval defence vessel forms part of the SA Maritime Museum
and is moored in the Alfred Basin.
The Victoria Ship:
The ship has a large treasure museum on board that houses a large
selection of gold and silver, and other artifacts recovered from
shipwrecks treasures salvaged from shipwrecks along the Cape coast.
Tours
to historic Robben Island are conducted from the Waterfront.
The Telkom Exploratorium:
This exibition documents advances in telecommunication from the
early days to the cellular phones of today.
The Cape Fur Seal community at the
Waterfront gives visitors the opportunity to view these animals
closely. Other wildlife, within easy reach of the Waterfront,
includes dolphins and whales.
There are 13 boats and small vessels providing
a charter services ranging from in-shore harbour to coastal
cruises around Robben Island and to Clifton.
Waterfront Craft Market clothing, jewellery;
leather work; glass and candles; soft furnishings; paper; a children's
aisle; metal and art furnishings; ceramics and pottery; and wooden
furnishings.
The Imax Cinema offers the ultimate
visual and sound experience. Featuring a five storey screen cinematic
experience.
The Scratch Patch Discover the fascinating
world of semi-precious stones by searching for them.
Cyberworld is a 3D simulation theatre
Mitchell's Brewery produce beers that
are available at Pubs, Taverns and Restaurants throughout the
Waterfront.
Vaughan Johnson's Wine Shop has a wide
selection of wines from the Cape winelands, selected by Vaughan
Johnson himself. The Wine Shop offers an overseas delivery service.
Nu Metro Cinema Complex provides eleven
movie houses
Amphitheatre open-air theatre with
scenic Table Mountain as a back-drop. Diverse artforms as ethnic
African music and classical symphonies to traditional African
dancing and classic ballet.
The Green Dolphin Restaurant and Jazz Bar
is dedicated to the preservation of Jazz and not to be missed
